Northstar-at-Tahoe
Thursday 28 November 1991
Weather
Temperature below freezing all day.
Conditions
Base of man made snow, mix of man made & natural on top. 4 lifts plus gondola in operation (out of 8 lifts). Mostly beginner & intermediate slopes open, some short black runs. Highlight top-to-bottom blue run approx 2.5 miles in length.
Overall
This was the second year that I skied in the Lake Tahoe area around Thanksgiving! This year it was much colder and there was some natural snow, so there was much more skiing.
The most challenging skiing of the day was the short steep Crosscut black run. From the lift it seemed emminently skiable, but on the slope it was much less so. 6" of powder on the top meant that it was forgiving, but I still found it virtually impossible to turn without losing control and careering across the slope until falling.
Skking past the snow guns at the bottom of Luggi's was not a pleasant experience.
Easy Runs
